Who’ll Be The First Premier League Manager To Exit?

The Geek’s Premier Predictions!

The Premier League started with a bang last weekend, with lots of exciting games, and some unexpected performances from the likes of Burnley and Huddersfield. Yet, despite the high excitement levels for the season ahead, the Geek thought it might be worth trying to predict who will be the first Premier League manager to exit his hot-seat this season.

Betting Odds

Rafa Benitez 7/2, Slaven Bilic 9/2, Mark Hughes 9/2, Antonio Conte 11/2, Frank de Boer 10/1, Craig Shakespeare 12/1, Paul Clement 12/1, Tony Pulis 20/1, Sean Dyche 25/1, Chris Hughton 25/1, Marco Silva 25/1, Mauricio Pellegrino 25/1, Ronald Koeman 33/1, Eddie Howe 33/1, Jurgen Klopp 33/1, Arsene Wenger 50/1, David Wagner 50/1, Mauricio Pochettini, Jose Mourinho 66/1, Pep Guardiola 75/1, No Manager To Leave 150/1

Major Contenders Rafa Benitez (Newcastle)

Defeat at home to Tottenham didn’t come as a big surprise to many, but it has poured further fuel on the fire that the current favourite will be the first Premier League Manager to leave his post this season, and whether he’s pushed or walks doesn’t matter. However, his big-contract would make him an expensive sacking, whilst it’s likely that a better job would have to become available for Benitez to leave.

Slaven Bilic (West Ham)

Bilic seems to have the backing of the club’s owners, who gave him some spending money to strengthen his team pre-season. However, after a poor season last season, he could be vulnerable if West Ham sit near the foot of the table for too long.

Mark Hughes (Stoke)

Hughes doesn’t appear to have the full support of the Stoke owners or fans, and with his squad arguably looking weaker than last season, he’s under pressure after losing away at Everton. It could be a tough start for Stoke too, with home games against Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea coming up, as well as away games at Newcastle and West Brom.

Antonio Conte (Chelsea)

The manager’s hot-seat is always a hot-seat at Chelsea due to their volatile chairman, but it’s hard to believe a manager with Conte’s experience won’t pull it around soon after a nightmare home defeat to Burnley. The last two Premier League winning managers have bitten the dust before the end of the season though.

Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace)

Simply out-thought in the opening exchange by Huddersfield Manager David Wagner, but will surely be given time to turn Palace into the attractive football playing side that he wants to. However, with Premier League survival the number one priority, he might not see the season out if that looks in jeopardy.

Craig Shakespeare (Leicester)

The highs and lows of Leicester have been well-documented in the last couple of seasons in these quarters and, in sacking Claudio Ranieri last season, the Leicester bosses have already shown that loyalty isn’t high on their list of priorities. However, despite an opening day loss to Leicester, the players seem to want to play for him – which could count for plenty.

There are plenty of hot-seats in the Premier League, some of which could get hot very quickly if things go wrong. However, the Stoke fans seem to have had enough of Mark Hughes and, with a very difficult looking opening campaign, the Stoke board may think it’s time for a change if Stoke start poorly.

THE Dragons manager early frontrunner with Michael Appleton and Ryan Giggs also amongst the favourites. and you can get 100/1 on Gary Lineker

CHRIS COLEMAN is the early favourite to take over from Craig Shakespeare at Leicester City.

The Wales manager is still considering his future with the Dragons after missing out on World Cup qualification earlier this month.

ODDS ON THE NEXT LEICESTER BOSS

  • Chris Coleman 5/1
  • Michael Appleton 6/1
  • Ryan Giggs 8/1
  • Martin O'Neill 12/1
  • Frank de Boer 12/1
  • Gordon Strachan 14/1
  • Carlo Ancelotti 16/1
  • Claudio Ranieri 16/1
  • Guus Hiddink 16/1
  • Nigel Pearson 16/1
  • Steve Claridge 80/1
  • Gary Lineker 100/1

*Prices according to SunBets

He is out of contract in November and could leave after the next international break when he takes the Welsh to France.

SunBets price Coleman at 5/1 for the job, with the second favourite being current Leicester assistant boss Michael Appleton at 6/1.

The former Manchester United youngster and ex-Portsmouth and Oxford United coach is expected to be handed the caretaker role after Shakespeare's sacking on Tuesday.

He is joined in the top three early frontrunners by a familiar face from his days at Old Trafford.

Ryan Giggs (8/1) is still searching for his first job in management and SunBets believe he is in with a great chance of taking over at the King Power Stadium.

The rest of the consists of a number of big names with Republic of Ireland's Martin O'Neill (12/1) and former Chelsea managers Carlo Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink also in the running.

BARD NEWS Craig Shakespeare sacked by Leicester with club slumped in Premier League relegation zone

Frank de Boer, axed by Premier League rivals Crystal Palace earlier in the campaign, and recently-departed Scotland chief Gordon Strachan are also listed among the faves.

Former manager Nigel Pearson is an outside bet at 16/1, while title-winning Claudio Ranieri is not in the running.

Leicester's favourite son, Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker, is an outsider at long odds of 100/1.

Shakespeare paid the price for his club's poor start to the season with the side currently slumped third from bottom in the Prem.

Match preview

No way bac-ary

He was hauled in for a meeting by club chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha today after the club's 1-1 draw at home to West Brom last night.

And the Thai owner made it clear that one win from the opening eight matches of the season was not good enough.

Shakespeare, 53, was only given the job on a permanent basis four months ago having taken charge on an interim basis following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri in February.

But he failed to maintain the improved level in performance of the side and has paid with his job.

The club decided they needed to make the change, fearing the players were not responding to their manager as they face up to a battle to avoid relegation.
